Conference Travel

INFORMATION FOR BERLIN FELLOWS

• Funding of conference participation is only possible if you present your dissertation work yourself at the respective conference.
• Please meet with your advisor soon after beginning your dissertation work and plan potential conference participation for the coming academic year, and repeat each year. 
• In principle, conference participation should be funded by your advisor's center or department. If this is not possible, your advisor needs to inform Silke Schäfer and explain why your participation in a certain conference is desirable. We will then look into whether LIFE has funds available for this purpose.
• Funding of conference travel abroad by LIFE always requires that you have applied for funding by the DAAD at least four (!) months before the conference and that this application was declined. See PDF below (in German) for more information. If you want to apply for LIFE funding should the DAAD turn down your application, please inform Silke Schäfer 8 weeks before your departure (even if you have not heard from the DAAD by then), because travel applications at the MPIB requires several administrative steps.
• Note that the DAAD only funds one conference visit in 12 months, that is, if you apply to LIFE for funding of a second conference after the first was funded by the DAAD, it is enough to refer to the earlier successful DAAD application.
