All LIFE Fellows in Berlin must submit a dissertation proposal after either six or eleven months with LIFE. Fellows who start the program in April of Year 1 must submit their dissertation proposals by August 31 or February 28 of Year 2. LIFE Fellows who start the program in October of Year 1 must submit their dissertation proposals by February 28 or August 31 of Year 2.
PROCEDURE
Write a comprehensive dissertation proposal (20 to 40 pages) including:
- Abstract, theoretical background, research goals and questions, methods and design, preliminary results and their discussion, research schedule for future progress, references
- Executive summary of the dissertation project
- Add a list of burning questions you want to discuss with your advisor and the reviewers.
Propose three to five faculty members you would like to have comment on your proposal and send all materials in one PDF file by e-mail to Silke Schäfer who will distribute them among the respective faculty members.
You will receive feedback either verbally at the following academy (if submitted after six months) or in written form in preparation of your session during the next academy (if submitted after eleven months). Keep Silke posted when you get a written response from your commentators. Remember to thank them for their efforts!
Note
Make use of your LIFE predecessors' experiences and ask them for advice!
