LIFE Newsletter: August 2024
Dear Readers,
In this issue, recent alumnae Sonja Sudimac and Nour Tawil introduce the newly established Center for Environmental Neuroscience (Director: Simone Kühn) that joins the Centers for Adaptive Rationality (Director: Ralph Hertwig), for Humans and Machines (Director: Iyad Rahwan), and for Lifespan Psychology (Director: Ulman Lindenberger) at MPIB.
New fellows Harini Babu (UM) and Sophie Bell (UVA) then give us their impression of the Fall Academy that took place in Berlin in October. Photographs taken by faculty and fellows are distributed throughout this newsletter issue. We then document the tributes to John Nesselroade during many of the lectures. Guest speaker Lucie Kalousová (Vanderbilt University) gave the commencement address, and we present her wishes for the commencees of this fall. This is followed by the fellows’ abstracts, once more showcasing the broad range of interesting topics being worked on in LIFE.
We then present the winner of this year’s LIFE Outstanding Alumni Award, UVA alumnus Thomas Talhelm. Congratulations!
This time, we interview LIFE Zurich co-speaker Moritz Daum in the 10 questions format and get interesting answers.
We have many new fellows at all sites except Berlin and are pleased to introduce them. In Berlin we welcome new faculty member Zoe Ngo, who will head a new Emmy Noether Group at MPIB, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), from next June.
Finally, there are many excellent new publications by fellows (and a selection of those by alumni) as well as lots of news to report.
As always, special thanks to all contributors!
Wishing those of you who celebrate a peaceful advent and happy holidays!
